"There is a hell of a rat plague," Telstra confirms, as 50 customers in Birdsville have lost service. Diamantina Mayor Robbie Dare tells ABC this "has been going [on] there for four or five months and they don't seem like they are letting up either." Chewed up cables are letting water in. Some of the faults are intermittent and hence especially hard for Telstra to diagnose. The problem has become severe across Queensland since the flooding.
