Verizon's Dick Lynch: No Capacity Issue Except Wireless
Written by Dave Burstein

DickLynch"The wireless network unlike our fiber network, FIOS, has a capacity issue. On fiber, the bandwidth is yours and you pay for it. But in wireless you have resource scarcity." Dick Lynch has has now joined his peer at AT&T, Charles Kalmanek; the CEO of British Telecom Wholesale, Sally Davis; and DSL and fiber experts worldwide in pointing out major networks simply don't have the congestion problems so widely claimed by lobbyists. I now have confirming data from Juniper and Cogent as well.

Net neutrality on wireless is a tougher question. Tim Wu convinced me, the majority of the current FCC, and many others it's worthwhile and practical. On wireline, NN is a no-brainer because the capacity is inexpensive. On wireless, reasonable people disagree. Lynch's comments came in a thoughtful interview with Maggie Reardon.
