| TrendChip Doubling Sales |

"Shipments of ADSL CPE chipsets more than doubled last year, giving it a 20% market share" the company claims. They believe that makes them #3 in the world. Doubling sales during a semi-conductor slump remains a remarkable achievement. Analog Devices, for example, is down 25% this quarter. TrendChip's General Manager Bomin Wang notes sales were particularly strong for single-port bridges and routers, but 802.11n is ramping more slowly.
Shinjou Fang, Trendchip's Chairman, came to Fast Net Futures in 2004. Metalink and Ikanos wowed the crowds with the world's demonstration of DSL running at 100 megabits along with grand claims from the chipmakers about what was coming. Millions of lines of 100 megabit VDSL have been installed, but they still don't have full interoperability or bonding that's ready for mass deployment. While I was premature in my enthusiasm for 100 meg, Fang instead believed that the largest customers would continue buying the simplest and least expensive modems. He was right. Broadcom, Conexant and Infineon are doing significantly better than most semiconductor makers. Spurred by demand at Deutsche Telekom, Infineon had a surprisingly good quarter.
