Will Tru2Way Move to Ethernet for Verizon?

Verizon complained to the FCC that the Tru2Way succes@Way eliminates the set topsor cable cards wouldn't work on Verizon FIOS because require a cable style return path. McSlarrow of the cable association first tried to defuse the issue by suggesting Verizon could simply use a set top. That was disingenuous, because eliminating the set top was one of the key goals of Tru2Way. Later on, both parties spoke of a practical solution: include an Ethernet port in every TV set. Since most TVs is Japan are currently shipped with Ethernet at minimal additional cost, the technology is easily adapted. Since Tru2Way is an ITU standard, there's a natural forum for everyone to come together.

Dolores May of Verizon complained to the FCC about Tru2Way:

"it is not compatible with other video providers’ networks, including Verizon’s all-fiber FiOS network ... we write to emphasize that the MOU and the associated “tru2way” technology represent a proprietary approach developed by and for traditional cable operators and that assumes the existence of traditional cable networks and traditional cable hardware interfaces (for example, including a radio frequency (RF) return path – something present on cable’s coax networks that does not exist on fiber networks or on services provided by satellite operators or IPTV providers)."
